Minyo

Privacy

Last updated 25 October 2026

Minyo lets the people you choose see where you are. That only works if you can trust us with your location, so we keep this simple: we use your data to run Minyo for you and your circles, and for nothing else. There is no advertising and no third-party analytics, and we never sell or share your location or anything else about you.

Your account

You sign in with your email address: we email you a 6-digit code, so there is no password. We keep your email address, your title (Mr, Mrs, Miss, Ms, Mx, or none if you prefer not to say), your first name and surname. Your name is shown to people in your circles; your email address is not. We may use titles in aggregate, anonymous statistics about who uses Minyo.

Your location

While location sharing is on, the app sends your phone's location to our server, also in the background, together with your battery level and whether it is charging. The people in your circles see your latest location, battery and the saved place you are at (for example "Home"), plus the route you took recently.

You can pause sharing at any time in the app (your circles then see "Location paused" and nothing is sent), or stop it completely in your phone's settings. The phone always shows when Minyo is using your location: on Android with a permanent notification, on iPhone with the location arrow.

Circles and places

A circle is a private group. People only join with an invite code that someone in the circle shares. Saved places (a name, a point on the map and a radius) belong to the circle and are visible to everyone in it. You can leave a circle at any time; admins can remove people.

Notifications

To tell you when someone arrives or leaves, sends an SOS or is running low on battery, the server sends notifications through Apple's push service on iPhone (which needs your phone's push token). On Android the app collects them from our server itself. You choose which alerts you get for each circle.

Where your data is kept

Minyo runs on Cloudflare's infrastructure (database, website and email delivery). Only you, your circles as described above, and we (to run the service and help you when you ask) can read it. Like any website, Cloudflare processes the IP address of each request to deliver it and protect the service. Map pictures come from Apple Maps on iPhone and Google Maps on Android, as part of your phone's own map service.

Children

Families often add children to their circle. A child's account should be set up by, or with, a parent or guardian. Minyo always shows the child that their location is being shared, and lets them see who can see them. We don't use children's data for anything other than showing their location to their own circle.

Deleting your data

In the app, Settings → Delete account removes your account, your locations and your history from our servers straight away, and takes you out of all your circles. You can also ask us without the app: see Delete your account.

Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, and complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). Write to support@minyo.app.
